Rescue Girls

Every year, more than 1,000 adolescent girls in the Kuria and Maasai communities are at risk of being forced to undergo female genital mutilation/cutting (FGM/C). This harmful practice not only exposes girls to life-threatening bleeding and long-term health complications, but also strips them of their right to education, safety, and a childhood free from fear.

In these communities, FGM is seen as a passage into womanhood—proof of bravery, a guarantee of marriageability, and a way to earn respect. But behind these traditions are pain, silence, and lost opportunities.

How we are Changing the Story
Through our rescue centre, we provide safe shelter for girls escaping FGM and for families who courageously refuse to submit their daughters to the cut during the peak season. Here, girls stay for 3–4 weeks, receiving:

  •  Protection & care in a safe environment
  •  Mentorship and life-skills training led by alumni who once walked the same path
  •  Confidence-building sessions to empower them to say NO to FGM
  • Alternative Rite of Passage (ARP)—a culturally respectful ceremony that celebrates their transition into womanhood without the cut

Since our founding, 471 girls have been rescued—each one a powerful story of resilience and hope.

With your support, we can reach even more girls.
Every contribution helps us provide shelter, mentorship, and an empowering alternative to harmful practices. Together, we can ensure that no girl has to choose between her safety and her future. Join us. Protect a girl. Change a generation.
